The video that started a thousand memes has been removed entirely. Rebecca Black’s “Friday” is now a $2.99 YouTube Rental, heralding a new era for YouTube’s content monetization strategy. First, Rebecca Black’s “Friday” video cost $US2.99 to “rent” on YouTube.

Now, the video has been set to “private”. Since debuting on YouTube 4 months ago, Rebecca Black‘s “Friday” has been viewed more than 165 million times. “Friday” has been viewed more than 165 million times by Americans eager to have some fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.

There are a few possible reasons as to why the video became part of YouTube’s rental service? The video with over three million dislikes would now appreciate it very much if you would pay $2.99 for the displeasure of having to listen to it in its entirety.

UPDATE: 'Friday' is back to being totally free to enjoy.
